CivMil is part website, part blog. As a long term resident of the security sector, I am acutely conscious of the need for a coordinated civilian and military response to crisis management. How this should be delivered is a problem we are all struggling with. There is little doctrine and even the definition of terms varies. Integrated or Comprehensive Approach - we can't even agree what to call the subject. For security and development practitioners the sharing of operational best practice would be a helpful start and I hope that this site contributes to that understanding..
Along the way I have worked in an extensive variety of roles and places. I have been employed by NATO, the EU and the OSCE amongst others. I have been a soldier and a civilian and found myself in such diverse locations as West Bank, Afghanistan, Somalia, former Yugoslavia, Saudi Arabia, Georgia, Tajikistan and Northern Ireland. I have by no means seen it all but my experience of the international community leads me to believe that we can do better.
I hope that this site allows the sharing of ideas. I am more than happy to post feedback or thoughts from readers. If you have the need for a specific service then I would be delighted to discuss this with you. If I cannot deliver the requirement myself I am pretty confident in saying that when it comes to the Integrated Approach I probably know someone who can.
